News and Announcements

This is a brief announcement to call your attention to the excellent PSE program at AERA 2023, which you can find on the Program & Events page. We want to highlight especially our business meeting event, social event, and the PaTHES event at AERA.

We are also delighted to announce our SIG election results: Samantha Deane (Boston College) has been elected to serve as Program Chair for 2023-2025, and Cara Furman, current Program Chair, will be rolling into a two-year term as Chair.

For any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me or any other of the SIG officials.

Dear PoE SIG members,

The Philosophical Studies in Education SIG at AERA is seeking volunteers to serve in two roles beginning summer 2023: 1) Equity and Diversity Resource Manager, and 2) Webmaster. Jessica Lussier and Elias Hage have been amazing in these roles the past two years! Descriptions of both positions follow, along with instructions for expressing interest. The positions have two-year terms and will work with the incoming SIG Chair Cara Furman in collaboration with the other SIG Officers (Incoming Program Chair, Samantha Deane; Communications, Douglas Yacek; Treasurer, Oded Zipory; Graduate Student Representative: Caitlin Brust). The time commitment for each position is minimal. Please read on and consider volunteering and/or recommending these positions to graduate students!

Equity and Diversity Resource Manager

Responsibilities include:

- Maintaining an online repository of recently published work in philosophy of education related to themes of equity and diversity. This involves reviewing new issues of a small number of journals in the field for relevant articles.

Webmaster

Responsibilities include:

- Completing one webmaster training session provided by AERA and one tutorial session provided by Wix.com.

- Maintaining the SIG website on Wix.com by keeping details about new events and initiatives, newsletters, and other information up to date.

- Creating event flyers and formatting the SIG conference program.

- Note: While prior experience in this area is a plus, no special web design knowledge is required. The biggest requirement is taking the time to familiarize yourself with the Wix.com website editor.

These positions are ideal for graduate students interested in getting involved with the Philosophical Studies in Education SIG. Those interested should send a short statement of interest (can be within the body of the email) to Rebecca Taylor at rmt@illinois.edu by Friday, April 21, 2023. If selected, you will need to be a member of AERA and the Philosophical Studies in Education SIG.
