Dear Colleagues,

Our discipline signals who belongs in the field and what topics are worthy of consideration through what we teach in our classes and cite in our scholarship. In an ongoing project, the “Philosophical Studies in Education” SIG at AERA is aiming to support the diversification of syllabi in philosophy of education through a collection of teaching resources. We are looking for resources that reflect:

1) topics connected to racial and social justice and/or

2) the diversity of scholars working in the philosophy of education

We invite resources that in your judgment fulfill either or both of these aims. We will be sharing an updated database of resources periodically throughout future newsletters. Thank you for your support in this project!

Please submit your suggestions here: https://forms.gle/yw21PtSNTh8Ff4sP8

Dear colleagues,

Do you have 1-2 hours to spare each month to serve the field of philosophical studies in education? Do you like connecting with colleagues and representing philosophy in the world of educational research?

The Philosophical Studies in Education SIG is still seeking nominees for the following roles:

  • Secretary/Treasurer (April 2021-23): managing and reporting on financial accounts of the SIG

  • Communications Director (April 2021-23): keep members informed of SIG activities and promote the interaction of members between meetings.

  • Graduate Student Representative (April 2021-23): organize student events and community-building activities

AERA policy requires that all elections be competitive, so there must be two or more candidates for each office. We have 2 candidates for graduate student representative and Communications. We currently have one candidate for Secretary/Treasurer. Candidates must be members of the SIG and AERA to serve. Ph.D. candidates who will graduate in May 2022 are eligible to run for the Communications and Secretary/Treasurer positions.

We understand what a uniquely challenging time it is to take on new service roles. Please feel free to reach out to any of us on the SIG (see email signature below) if you have any questions about workload.

If you are interested in running or would like to nominate someone, please send the following to Rebecca Taylor at rmt@illinois.edu.

  • The candidate’s full name

  • The institutional affiliation

  • Email address

  • A biographical statement of up to 200 words.

All nominations should be received by October 1, 2021.
