SIG Program Chair Nominations


We are currently accepting nominations for the position of SIG Program Chair, due Fall 2022. The position is a two-year term and converts to the SIG Chair position for a second two-year term afterward.


The Program Chair oversees the review process for the annual meeting and works with the SIG Chair (incoming Chair is Cara Furman) to develop the program and other SIG initiatives. This is a great opportunity to help shape the direction of the SIG and to get involved with the AERA leadership. For questions on the position please email current program chair, Cara Furman, cara.furman@maine.edu


Please note that AERA policy requires that all elections be competitive, so there must be two or more candidates for each elected office. Only regular members can run for office. Graduate students can only serve in positions designated for graduate students. Candidates must be current members of the SIG and AERA to serve as an officer.

John Dewey Society Conference on Border Justice & InterAmerican Cooperation


The John Dewey Society cordially invites you to our Conference on Border Justice and InterAmerican Cooperation, taking place just prior to the start of the AERA conference in San Diego. We will host a day-long conference on April 20 at the beautiful Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balbao Park. The event is headlined by Dewey Memorial Lecturer, Christopher Tirres, and Dewey Symposiasts K. Wayne Yang, Davíd Morales, Stanley Rodriguez, and Caroline Collins. There will also


be paper sessions and workshops throughout the day, all in a community-based setting that is free and open to the public. On April 21, we will meet in Barrio Logan, the San Diego neighborhood that houses Libélula Bookstore (an independent queer and BIPOC owned bookshop) and Chicano Park. From there, Pedro Rios of the American Friends Service Committee will lead us on a tour of border sites that speak to the area’s militarization and the human rights abuses that have happened as a result. Transportation is provided. We will return to Barrio Logan for lunch and a group debrief. Please reserve your spot for the conference as well as the border tour today! Dear Philosophical Studies in Education SIG Members,

I hope you are all well. I’m writing to encourage you to vote on the three positions our SIG has on the ballot for the AERA election. The election closes on February 11, 2022. You should receive your ballot link by email directly and automatically from AERA. Biographies of each candidate are available on your personal ballot. The three positions and candidates on the Philosophical Studies in Education SIG ballot are:

Secretary/Treasurer (2-year term begins in 2022)

The Secretary/Treasurer shall be responsible for managing and reporting on the financial accounts of the SIG and the safe keeping of all financial documents of the SIG.

The Communications Director shall use various forms of online communication tools (including the Web Site and SIG listserv) to keep members informed of SIG activities and to promote the interaction of SIG members between annual meetings.
